Operation Cormorant

In response to the spate of fatal accidents in the 2nd half of 2015, OSHD has stepped up its enforcement efforts through Operation Cormorant. The 8-week operation focused on WAH safety management and proper WAH practices in worksites, in addition to two other focus areas – crane safety and traffic management. A total of 900 companies were inspected with more than 1100 inspections conducted. 14 SWOs were issued and more than 1900 WSH contraventions were uncovered. From the inspections conducted, failure to ensure that openings and open sides were guarded, failure to properly maintain lifting appliances or lifting machines and failure to establish and implement lifting plans prior to carrying out any lifting operation were the top three contraventions that were observed.
