Whether you are an employee hired under a contract of service or a self-employed person (SEP) under a contract for service depends on the actual relationship between you and the company.
Employers hire employees under a contract of service, entitling them to benefits such as sick and annual leave as well as CPF contributions.
If you work as an SEP, there is no employer-employee relationship under such an arrangement. You would not be covered under the Employment Act and the Work Injury Compensation Act, and the company does not need to make CPF contributions to you.
Examples of SEPs include:
- Healthcare providers on platforms like Homage
- Freelancers and Independent contractors
- Sole proprietors
