How long do I need to be employed for to qualify for shared parental leave?

To qualify for shared parental leave (SPL), you must have served your employer for a continuous period of at least 3 months before the birth of your child.

If you do not meet the criteria above, the Government may reimburse your employer for your SPL if you meet all the following conditions:

  • You have served your employer at the point of your child’s date of birth
  • Your employer agrees to give you SPL.
  • You have not claimed for SPL in respect of the same child order.

Visit the Government-Paid Leave portal for more details on eligibility criteria.
