WSQ Training Enhances Job Mobility: Study
3 in 10 employees with WSQ training changed jobs in the last 2 years, compared to 2 in 10 employees without the training
A study on “Labour Mobility” conducted by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has found that workers who underwent Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) training enjoyed greater job mobility. Close to three in ten employees with WSQ training changed jobs in the last two years, compared to two in ten employees without WSQ training. Overall, one in five employees changed jobs between 2007 and 2009.
Among Singapore resident who switched jobs over the last two years, most moved to occupations with similar skills levels. WSQ training significantly increased the chances of plant & machine operators, cleaners and labourers changing occupations to pursue new careers in the service, clerical, craftsmen & related industries.
Other findings of the study:
- Labour mobility generally decreased with age.
- Contract employees were nearly twice more likely to switch jobs than permanent employees.
- Labour mobility decreased with income.
- Labour mobility varied less significantly with education
