Upcoming Cluster Operations (COPS)

Upcoming Construction Operations on Landed Properties – “Operation Peacock”

Operation Period:15 April – 30 April 2014

Background:

On 21 Mar 2014, OSHD was informed by the police that a construction worker had fallen from the roof of a building under construction. The worker succumbed to his injuries at about on the same day. The Deceased and 4 co-workers were tasked to perform roofing work for the building under construction. He was laying aluminium sheets over the metal roof when he lost his balance and fell 8m to the backyard of the neighbouring building.

There had been an increase in the number of unsafe acts reported by members of the public as well as in findings during inspections, on construction works at landed properties, providing an onus for more focus to be placed on such construction activities.

The Ministry will initiate an operation covering landed properties throughout Singapore to ensure that safety and health standards are adhered to.
