Foreign Employee Dormitories Bill
20 Jan 2015
The Foreign Employee Dormitories Bill was passed in Parliament today, which imposes additional requirements on larger foreign worker dormitories (which will include all Purpose-Built Dormitories), on top of complying with existing regulatory standards. This Bill will also enable upstream measures to be taken into account during the design stage to mitigate the higher risks associated with the higher density of foreign workers in these larger dorms. Licensing conditions will include additional requirements on public health and safety, security and public order, and the provision and maintenance of social and commercial facilities and services.
