Written Answer by Mrs Josephine Teo Minister for Manpower to Parliamentary Question on retirement age

NOTICE PAPER NO. 1311 OF 2018 FOR THE SITTING ON 01 OCTOBER 2018

QUESTION NO. 2177 FOR WRITTEN ANSWER

MP: Dr Intan Azura Mokhtar

To ask the Minister for Manpower whether there are plans to review the retirement age and push it up to 65 years old automatically without any disruption to salary or benefits in light of Singaporeans living longer.

Answer

  1. Earlier this year, I announced the formation of the Tripartite Workgroup on Older Workers (TWG-OW). Among other things, the Workgroup will review the longer-term relevance of the retirement and re-employment age, and consider the next steps that will best address the needs of our economy and society.
  2. The TWG-OW held its first meeting last month. It has started to gather views from different groups and will consider the matter holistically, taking into the account the perspectives of both workers, employers, and other stakeholders. MOM hopes to share the Workgroup’s initial set of findings at the Committee of Supply debate next year.
