NOTICE PAPER NO. 738 OF 2021 FOR THE SITTING ON 4 OCTOBER 2021
QUESTION NO. 1889 FOR WRITTEN ANSWER FOR ORAL ANSWER NOT ANSWERED BY END OF QUESTION TIME

MP:Ms Joan Pereira

To ask the Minister for Manpower regarding migrant domestic workers (MDWs), whether the Ministry can provide an update on the recourse that employers have against false accusations by MDWs.

Answer

MOM takes a firm stance against migrant domestic workers (MDWs) who file a false employment complaint or claim against their employers. MOM investigates all complaints and claims thoroughly and fairly, to determine if the allegations are substantiated. This includes interviewing both the MDW and the employer to establish the facts of the case, and reviewing other objective evidence, such as CCTV recordings where available, and accounts from witnesses. Actions have been taken against MDWs who were found to have provided false information, including being fined, imprisoned, or both. MDWs found guilty of false allegations have also been barred from working in Singapore.
