To ask the Minister for Manpower for each year in the past five years, what is the mean and median number of working hours a week for full-time resident employees aged 25 to 64 years old earning (i) below $2,000 per month (ii) $2,000 to $4,999 per month and (iii) $5,000 and above per month, respectively.

Answer:

1.Between 2019 and 2023, the mean and median number of hours worked per week for full-time resident employees aged 25-64 have decreased across almost all income groups between 2019 and 2023.

a. For employees earning below $2,000, mean hours worked decreased from 45.2 hours to 43.2 hours per week, while median hours worked decreased from 44.0 hours to 42.0 hours per week.

b. For those earning between $2,000 and $4,999, mean hours worked decreased from 45.0 hours to 43.9 hours per week, while median hours worked decreased from 44.0 hours to 43.0 hours per week.

c. For those earning $5,000 and above, mean hours worked decreased from 45.8 hours to 44.5 hours per week, while median hours worked remained the same at 44.0 hours per week.
