Singapore Delegates Attend The International Labour Organisation Asian Regional Forum On Growth, Employment And Decent Work, 13 – 15 August 2007, Beijing, People’s Republic Of China

Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister of State for Manpower and Education is leading a delegation to attend the International Labour Organisation Asian Regional Forum (ILO ARF) on Growth, Employment and Decent Work in Beijing, China from 13 to 15 August 2007. The forum will discuss a wide spectrum of issues, including job creation and poverty reduction, productivity and competitiveness, institutions and policies for equitable and efficient labour markets, as well as the challenges of the informal economy.  Representatives from the unions and employers have also been invited to attend the event, together with participants from regional organisations, think tanks, academia and NGOs networks.

2.   At the forum, Mr Gan will participate in a high-level roundtable discussion and also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts to share ideas on the common challenges faced in facilitating economic growth, employment and developing the labour force.

3.   Mr Gan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Manpower as well as representatives from the National Trades Union Congress and the Singapore National Employers Federation.
