Singapore Human Capital Summit 2010 sees World Experts Address Human Capital Challenges in Asia
29 September 2010
- Asia’s growth post-recession and the need to focus on productivity for sustainable growth, the role of Asia-centric people strategies to address the on-going war for talent, as well as Singapore’s role to facilitate Asia’s growth as a talent base – these are the three key issues that will dominate the third Singapore Human Capital Summit 2010 (SHCS).
- Kicking off the Summit, the keynote address by Guest-of-Honour, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Teo Chee Hean, also focused on these three areas. “To effectively and sustainably capitalise on the immense growth potential in Asia, organisations will need to develop a holistic Asia-centric people strategy and build a strong leadership and talent base,” said Mr Teo.
- This year’s Summit theme focuses on “People Strategies for Asia – Riding the Wave of Recovery & Growth”. During the two-day Summit, topics will range from how to build Asia’s leadership capabilities, to the unique challenges of talent management in Asia. The full programme and Summit topics are available at Annex A.
- Summit delegates can also view outstanding HR best practices and how they have contributed towards positive business outcomes at the Knowledge Showcase. A mix of private and public sector companies share their insights at this year’s showcase, including CapitaLand, Rolls-Royce, and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
- The latest research findings by international HR experts Professor Lynda Gratton (London Business School) and Professor Dave Ulrich (Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, and partner & co-founder RBL Group), and Accenture’s report on “Research on Asia - HR Challenges in Regionalisation in Asia” will be released at the Summit. Professor Gratton’s research on the “Future of Work” gives a fascinating glimpse into how the workplace may look like in the future, and discusses how people practices have to evolve to support business strategies. Professor Gratton also explores how organisations can adopt innovative practices to enhance their employees’ experience at work.
- Professor Ulrich will discuss the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ in the meaning at work – how leaders can infuse meaning into work for their employees and organisation by motivating and inspiring them to create a model of sustainable business practice.
- With over 50 eminent speakers and facilitators, this year’s Summit will see the participation of more than 650 global, regional and local business leaders. Mr Loh Khum Yean, the Permanent Secretary of Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower summed up the SHCS’s objective, “The Summit will provide Asian business leaders a global perspective, while taking into account Asia’s unique challenges in leadership and human capital development. We hope that the insights and ideas shared will help companies and organisations better ride the wave of recovery and growth in Asia for business competitiveness and sustainability.”
