Higher Compensation Limits Under the Work Injury Compensation Act
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will be updating the compensation limits in the Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA) as part of its regular review to keep pace with wage growth and rising healthcare costs. The compensation limits were last reviewed in 2020. The current increase in compensation limits enhances protection for employees and will take effect from 1 Nov 2025.
2 The compensation limits for death and permanent incapacity will increase by about 19% to $269,000 and to $346,000 respectively. The compensation limit for medical expenses will increase by 17% to $53,000. Details of the updates can be found in the Annex.
3 WICA protects all employees when they get work-related injuries or diseases and enables them to make claims in an efficient and low-cost manner, as they do not have to file a civil suit under common law. It provides for compensation regardless of the party at fault. As such, compensation limits are capped to protect employers from large payouts. More details on WICA can be found at go.gov.sg/wica.
