MOM can obtain income information with consent
- TODAY, 22 January 2014
- We refer to Mr Lim Poh Seng's letter ("MOM should liaise with IRAS to obtain private data"; 17 Jan).
- Employers of foreign domestic workers do not have to provide their Income Tax Notice to their employment agencies for submission to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
- They can indicate their consent on the application form to allow MOM to obtain the income information from the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) directly. The income information is shared strictly between IRAS and MOM and is not conveyed to the employment agencies involved in the application process. Alternatively, the employer may submit their income information to MOM directly.
MOM should liaise with IRAS to obtain private data

One of the documents a maid agency requires from an employer is the Year of Assessment tax bill issued by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS). But why should an agency have access to such private information? If the Manpower Ministry requires the information, it should liaise directly with IRAS.
