2020 was an unprecedented and challenging year. We faced an economic downturn, companies had to reduce their operations and some workers were unfortunately laid off. It was the first time in Singapore’s history that the Government introduced three budgets over the course of the year to protect livelihoods and jobs. MOM, together with the other Ministries, has been at the forefront of this.
For our workers, we implemented various support schemes to help workers upskill, provided job matching services for those retrenched, and gave further opportunities for women and senior workers to remain in the workforce. For employers, we sought to support employers to keep their workers, increase their resilience through strengthening of the local workforce, and facilitate business transformation and make jobs more productive and attractive for workers through job redesign.
This year is no different. We will continue to provide these support schemes and benefits as we seek to continue to recover from the effects of COVID-19.
